Marijuana : Vacancy - The Life of a Pot Smoker

It sometimes seems like marijuana is everywhere. Compared to drugs like cocaine or heroin, marijuana has a high profile. People talk about it and joke about it. they wear pictures of it on t-shirts or hats. Characters in the movies sometimes get “high.”

So is everyone using marijuana? Not by a long shot. Many people have tried marijuana once in their lives. Surveys show that 49% of 12th graders have used marijuana at least once. But not that many people use marijuana regularly. About 22% of 12th graders and 9.2% of 8th graders use marijuana once a month or more. That’s about one out of five 12th graders and less than one out of ten 8th graders. It’s certainly not “everyone.”

The people who are using marijuana are not some cool role models. They are underachievers. They are often lazy, sluggish, and burned out. They may cough up phlegm (mucus) every day, have lots of colds, or have bronchitis.

In addition, marijuana is illegal. Users are not only disappointing their parents, they are also breaking the law and putting their futures in great danger.

When you know all there is to know about marijuana, chances are you’ll make the healthy choice not to use it.
