Tobacco
Company Tricks
There are lots of ways that kids get tricked into smoking cigarettes
or using smokeless tobacco. Tobacco companies try to trick kids into
wanting tobacco by using advertisements. The tobacco companies spend
about $5 billion on advertising every year, or $16.5 million every
day! Tobacco companies are not supposed to try to get kids to use
tobacco. It's against the law. Still, many of their advertisements
have images and ideas that attract teenagers and young kids.
Kids your own age may also trick you into using tobacco by telling
you things that are not true. Kids who try to talk you into using
tobacco probably don't want to hurt you. Maybe they want to seem cool.

do. If other kids get you to use tobacco, they do hurt you in the
long run.
