You might be worried about friends or family who drink alcohol. Do you know how to tell if someone has been drinking?

When someone takes a drink of alcohol, it takes about 90 seconds for the drug to reach the brain and other organs.

Within a few minutes, you might be able to tell by watching them that they have been drinking.

People who have been drinking may show these signs :

 
Sign 1 – They begin to talk a lot. They may act bold and a little wild.

Sign 2 – They have bad breath. Alcohol smells strong when it’s fresh, and it smells AWFUL when it’s been in someone’s body for a while!

Sign 3 – They may do crazy, dangerous things without thinking first.

Sign 4 – They lose some control over their bodies – run into things, fall down, drop things.

Sign 5 – They become emotional -- may act extra sad or angry all of a sudden.

Sign 6 – They act like they can’t see things correctly (because they can’t). They may run into more things or have trouble reading, for example.

Sign 7 – They pretend they aren’t drunk, but their behavior shows that they really are.

Sign 8 – They act sleepy or they fall asleep.

Sign 9 – They seem confused.

Sign 10 – They are dizzy and run into things.
